Me and my Dad watch these episodes together. We have from the pilot episode. It’s a Dad/son sort of thing and quite sweet. We don’t critique the episodes or anything like that, we just sit there and bask in the glow of some great TV.
Anyway, episode 2 was good, but not great. It sort of ended abruptly (which was probably the point) and yeah I miss the banter. Most of all, when the episode had finished I found I wanted more of John Goodman as Prez. What a fine actor. He’s not sweet, not nice, not anything like Martin Sheen. He’s in your face and he gets the job done. And while you might detest his politics, there’s something noble about him.
Or perhaps I’m pulling all this out of my arse. What I’m trying to say is that I could have done with more JG.
As for Martin Sheen. He played the broken man so well.
But my fave bit of the episode was the noble sacrafice speech in the toilet between Josh and one of Goodman’s men. That was SWEEEET!
Anyway, Dad and I enjoyed episode two, and that’s really what counts.
