Yes, I’m back.
But rather than deal with the Russian Government / Mafia / hackers on LiveJournal, I’ve decided to move over to the much greener pastures of WordPress. I’ll still be cross-posting, assuming the Journal Press tool works, but aside from that my days with LJ are over. (Still, if you want to comment there I promise not to ignore you).
Essentially, this blog won’t be any different to what I was doing before. I’ll still be reviewing stuff, spruking Writer and The Critic and Shooting the Poo and ranting about fannish things that strike me as worth the rant. The difference is that because I’m time poor and patience poorer, these posts are going to be short and to the point. Because if there’s one thing I’ve discovered in the last six months, unless you’re a brilliant writer there’s no point spending hours blogging a 1,500 word review about David Foster Wallace’s Infinite Jest that most people will ignore because they either (a) haven’t read the book (b) don’t care or (c) don’t have the time to read my ramblings about a wonderful novel that should have been nominated a Hugo back in the day. And I don’t blame them. The fact is, (and I blame twitter and facebook) I no longer have the brain power and will to read long blog posts, even if they’re on a topic that I’m actually interested in.
So the philosophy of this blog is that brevity is king. Other than that – the House rules are that anything goes!
Good to see you’ve gone live, Hamster. Still slightly weirded out about the title–I planted a seed that I didn’t think would grow in quite this way–but oddly proud too.
It’s a wonderful super hero title and sums me up perfectly. Well… maybe not perfectly. I’m not actually a Hamster. Though I have been known to be hysterical. And ovoid.
When you get on the subject of “Anonymous” it’s particularly apt, I think. You even put on a little cape and everything.
An evil film that should not be watched by anyone. The Hamster has spoken.
Good luck!
I may occasionally read it.
Don’t lie. You won’t read a word.
WordPress really is lovely, isn’t it? You won’t regret it.
(And now time for another switch from LJ-to-RSSfeed on how I keep up with someone’s blog…)
It’s extremely easy to use. I was a bit scared at setting up my own site so I could host WP.org, but it’s worth the minimal effort. (And the money… which is minimal as well),
