– and for a good cause as well.

Yesterday I left work early to attend the Tsunami Appeal Cricket Match between the Rest of the World and the Asian 11. I went with Mitch, Aaron, Nicola, Andy and Troy. It was a great days cricket, even if the score in the end wasn’t tight. Watching these champions of the game play in the same game was simply breathtaking, and seeing Shane Warne (the greatest spinner of all time) come back to one day cricket and bowl at the MCG (his home ground) with 70,000 vocal supporters chanting his name (WARNEY, WARNEY, WARNEY) and (WE LOVE YOU BECAUSE YOU’RE A VICTORIAN!!!!) was worth every penny.

He also took two wickets which sent the crowd alight.

Anyway, the day raised 14 million dollars in ticket sales for the Tsunami Appeal – which is brilliant. 3 mobile donated $1,000 for every run scored – so that tally ended up at $577,000. Travelex (who sponsored both sides) donated a million and Toyota donated $50,000 for ever six scored (for those who don’t know, a six is scored when the batsmen hits the ball out of the ground… well not actually out of the ground, but over the rope or into the crowd without the ball bouncing before the rope… if you know what I mean). I think seven or eight were hit… so that means about $400,000 from them).

Ricky Ponting showed why he’s one of the best batsmen in the world. Chris Cairns 69 of 40 odd balls was AMAZING. He hit one six by just flicking his wrists. (For those who don’t understand or know cricket, it would be like bunting a baseball out of the ground).

I was totally buggered when I came home. But also pretty damn happy. I love cricekt.
