I really consider The Shawshank Redemption to be one of the best films ever made.

My sister bought the 10th Anniversary DVD for my birthday (what a lovely girl) and I watched it last night (for the 7th time) with my housemate Teej. And we were both mesemerised by the gorgeous directing, the jaw droppingly good acting and the amazing storyline.

The story is based on a novella by the Master himself, Stephen King. Rita Hayworth and the Shawshank Redemption is for me King’s best work (you can find it in the collection Different Seasons with three other brilliant stories including the second best story King ever wrote ‘Apt Pupil). Yeah, “IT” and “The Shining” and “Salems Lot” and “The Stand” are all great novels, but they are all pipped at the post by this sublime piece of writing. I could go on and use more adjectives, but I think you get the point. If you haven’t read Rita Hayworth, then find a copy of Different Seasons and do so. It will make you cry.

And here’s some Shawshank trivia for any of you who care:
