Well, Yom Kippur (the Jewish Day of Atonement) was a blast.  I mean all that fasting and praying and fasting, who wouldn’t have fun?

Actually, as crap as fasting is, Yom Kippur went quite smoothly.  There was a horrible moment when I thought I’d gotten a migraine, but it proved to be a false alarm.  This was also the first time I experienced the fast with my beautiful new wife Jules.  Together, we supported each other and I think… no, I know, it made the fast easier.

Only hours after the fast I had the pleasure to spend a few hours, and enjoy drinks with Mitch (

).  As it happened, sitting at the same table were a bunch of other people, including sexy, cool author Sean Williams (

), artist and genius extraordinare Shaun Tan and his lovely girlfriend Inari, who’s also amazingly talented, best selling writer Kevin J Anderson and his wife (and also author) Rebecca Moesta.  It was brilliant fun.  Kevin and Rebecca were a blast – we canvassed about a bazillion subjects, including American politics, Kevin’s irritation at not being able to get cream with his coffee and the joy of Indian Pale Ales.  Sean Williams was just his usual, laid back, cool self.  And he and Shaun Tan had me in fits of laughter.  I also discovered that Shaun T was a total nerd (he says he’s reformed) programming his own computer game when he was young.  Inari was brilliant company and was willing to listen to me babble on and on and on for hours and not ask me to shut up.

And Mitch, well he’s always good value.  Especially when he wears that funky hat of his.

Today, Jules and I did some pre-flat hunting.  We saw two places and weren’t impressed with either.  But we have a few months, so, at the moment, we can take the time to choose something that works for the both of us.
