… I was just watching that show on Channel 9, 20 to 1, this week they looked at one hit wonders re: music. I had issue with the fact that some of the so called one hit wonders they highlighted, such as Dave Dobbyn and that German band who sang the song about the 99 balloons, were only one hit wonders in Australia. I mean, so fucking what? When did being a one hit wonder in Australia actually mean anything, to anyone, outside of Australia.
The Shatner Top 100 (or 50, or whatever it was) one hit wonders was much better and mostly (though not entirely) dealt with actual one hit wonders. Though at least the Shatner one had an excuse. I mean we’re talking America here and there things do count. In music anyway.
Anyway, enough with the ranting.
Here’s where I want some feedback.
One hit wonder authors of any genre. They either have to be authors that only wrote one book that just so happened to be a hit or wrote many books and only had one stand-out.
I’ll start you off
What the fuck ever happened to Scott Smith. He wrote the marvellous Simple Plan (which was turned into a half decent film directed by Sam Raimi) then vanished. Is he dead?
I can’t think of anyone else. I think this is probably because the industry is very, very different. But come on you clever guys out there, what can you come up with?
