… I saw the abomination the Seeker: The Dark is Rising.

I know many of you, who have read the book, are not going to see this movie.  It’s likely that you were turned off by the crap trailer.  Well, the movie is worse.  But, for any of you who are wavering, please trust me this is one big pile of steaming shite.

And why…

… well it feels like it has been directed by an epileptic, with the camera never ever stopping and this constant slow mo – quick mo transition of the action.  Ian McShane is wasted, he doesn’t seem to have any idea why he’s in the film or what it’s about.  And I kept expecting him to tell Will that he was a cocksucker.

Chris Eccleston is also wasted in the film.  He should have been great as the Rider, but he plays it as a one note villain.  Actually Chris does a nice turn when he’s masquerading as the town Doctor.  Very ninth Doctor.  But as the rider… out of the all the actors he’s the one who falls foul the most of the director’s penchant for slo mo and quick mo.

All the subtlety of the book is totally lost.  I’m not a fan of the novel, but even I know that cutting Herne the Hunter makes no sense at all.  Also, if you haven’t read the book, you’re gonna keep asking yourself why the Rider doesn’t just kill Will and take the fucking signs.

Alexander Ludwig is… OK… as Will.  But there’s this risible scene toward the middle where he has this tantrum – because his brother gets the girl – and he starts blowing things up with his power.  See what I mean about a lack of subtlety.

And that’s only a small portion of the total shiteness of this film.

Do yourself a favour and keep well away.
