I’ve always been a huge – possibly stalkerish – fan of Max Barry.  He’s the Melbourne author of books like Syrup (which is great) Jeniffer Government (which is good) and The Company (which made me laugh out loud on a number of occassions).  He’s a bit of a pop culture satirist, with a bit of genre thrown in.  I loved Max so much that I made sure he was invited as a guest to Continuum 2 back in 2004 or 5… or whenever it was.

Anyway, he’s also currently writing a serial novel called Machine Man.  For the last 56 days he’s posted a single page of the book for us Max Barry maniacs to reads.  It’s about a guy who loses his left leg and then, because he works in a high tech company, decided to build his own.  It’s only after building it that he realises how much better things would be if he started replacing all the parts of his body woth machine bits.  Add in a love interest, some really funny bits and some company-related satire, and you’ve got me sitting by my email account waiting, no gagging, no chalashing for the next instalment.

You can read the first 43 pages for free here – http://www.maxbarry.com/machineman/

It then costs $7 Aussie bucks or so to read the rest.

So give it a try and tell me what you think.  Or tell Max.  He likes the feedback.
