Could this be anymore stupid.

Let’s be clear here, Gordon Ramsay – as much as I love Hells Kitchen  – is a complete and total arse.  Yes, I can admire his rags to riches story, but as a human being, he doesn’t even come close to making the grade.  Jules and I, who spent a wonderful Sunday at the Food and Wine show, made a point of not seeing Ramsay do his thang.  We considered it, but settled on the cheaper option of seeing Matt Moran – who was great.  (That said… I admit to staying behind for an extra five minutes at the show to see Gordon walk up to his signing… but I promise I didn’t take an autograph or ask him to sign my boobs).

And then there’s Tracy Grimshaw who hosts A Current Affair (for those overseas people on my flist, it’s one of those "news" shows were reporters go kicking down doors of people suspected to be con artists, or absuing the system, or being unemployed).  I can see why she would have been hurt by the comparison to being a pig.  No-one should be treated like that.  But then, I could say the same of the people she – or at least the show she hosts – ridicule every single day of the week.  Take the CHK CHK BOOM girl (I’m not even going to bother to explain this one to the flist, but you can see some of what I’m talking about it here) who was proven to be a liar and a racist.  Rathen than condem her, ACA tries to ‘redeem’ her by giving her some nice new duds and a hairstyle.  Oh, and the ability to hold a fork.  The usual top notch journalism I’ve come to expect from ACA (not that I watch it or Today Tonight).  So… point being… my sympathies for Tracy only go so far in that I don’t condone bullying of any sort.

But the real issue is – and here I’m chanelling Terry Frost – is why we allow these sorts of waste of time issues to headline our news.  It’s front page on the Herald Sun – online and print – a story so meaningless, so vapid, so stupid, that the fact I’ve spent more than ten minutes writing about it is a shocking state of affairs.

But like everyone else, I can’t be helped but be drawn to the theatre of the story.  And because it is a story… I want to know what happens next.  And when you consider that over 130 people on the Herald Sun website have commented on the story… well you can see that the journo aren’t entirely to blame.  We more than help in fuelling the fire.
