After many months of me telling her how crap msn is, Jules has decided to come across to the Light and now has her own LJ – julesmond.

Note the use of the regal Mond name. It brought a smile to my face.

As for a proper update… well, here we go.

(1) I’ve been working in my new job at VicRoads now for two and a bit weeks. I’m a Senior Policy Analyst for Heavy Vehicle Reform and its a steep learning curve for someone like me who has no technical knowledge at all. I write lots of letters, read policy paper and try and sound intelligent when I’m asked a question about jinkers, S dimensions, quad-axles and 40 by 40 B-Doubles. (I was showing off there). It’s the most fun I’ve ever had, even if my brain does go a bit mucky.

(2) Australia is one up in the Ashes. England showed some grit in their second innings, with Pieterson and Collingwood making a fist of it. But the English bowling was woeful. The Poms are missing two things English conditions, where the Dukes can rough up nicely allowing for reverse swing and Simon Jones.

(3) I’ve seen movies. Jules and I saw Borat and loved it. It’s crass, it’s unsubtle and it’s bloody funny. Highly recommended. I also saw The Prestige which was just superb. I haven’t read the book, so I can’t make a comparison. Nolan’s script and his direction is great, and I happy that Hollywood is still willing to make movies where can’t be figured out after the first three minutes. My only complaint was the expository nature of the ending, something which I felt wasn’t needed. Still, it wasn’t enough to tarnish my enjoyments of this fantastic film.

(4) I’ve just finished a Warhammer 40,000K novel by Dan Abnett and actually enjoyed it. So there.

(5) Jules is a brilliant cook. She baked these cookies for me to take to work on my first Friday in the new job. They dissapeared in seconds, with one guy asking me for the recipe. She fills my tummy with joy.

There’s probably a heap more to say, but that’ll do for the moment…
