Too paraphrase Stephen King: Let’s talk about writing you and I

Or more to the point, let’s talk about Ricky Ponting cricket. Ya see, I’m an inherently lazy guy who needs to contrive forms of motivation… I’m only going to write outdoors, I’m going to write 500 words a day, I’m going to write for 45 minutes everyday, I’m going to take a long walk and think through a particular plot point, I’m going to do Nanowrimo and so forth… to actually write. This means, that while I might tell people I love to write, the actual truth is that I love the idea of writing and being an author. The idea has thrilled since I was in Grade 3 and got 10/10 for a project on writing.

But the world keeps distracting me. About eight months ago some evil computer game company published Ricky Ponting cricket. It’s the most accurate depiction of cricket around. And the thing is it allows you to create your own player. I’ve created a dashing opening batsman named Ian Mond. After much work training him up, he’s now the best guy in the team. And I spend my free time honing his skills. Everytime he hits a cover drive for four, or smashes a six over deep midwicket I get all excited and wobbly at the knees. Sooooo much fun.

But it stops me from writing. So I’ve decided to give the game to Ori to hide (he doesn’t know this yet). It’s immature and silly and I should have more self discipline. But if I don’t do this, well Australia might win the World Cup, but I won’t finish (or barely start) that novel I want to write.

Anyway, Ian F came back to me with news about my latest Big Finish short story. He said he loved it, which gave me a thrill. It’s probably the best Who thing I’ve written. And Danny Dalekboy Danger Oz, notified Bill Congreive about my DW story “The Heroine, the Hero and the Megalomaniac” which was very nice of him. I thought I had another TV tie in story for 2005, but it would seem “Denial” my Benny story, came out in 2004. I still consider it the best thing I’ve ever written.

Anyway, I should probably have a website highlighting my work, but wouldn’t know where to start.

In summary then: RICKY PONTING CRICKET I’LL MISS YOU!!!!!!!!
